Conjugation |
Conjugation in the swap of genetic material from direct transfer. The way it works is when a donor cell builds a sex pilus, or conjugation tube. it then attaches the conjugation tube to one of the recipient cells receptor. This creates a gateway that allows the bacteria to transfer genetic information between each other. After the transfer is complete both cell contain the ability to build a conjugation tube, this means that the recipient cell can now pass on the genetic information to other bacteria. And if the donor cell had a gene that allowed it to be resistant to antibiotics, both cells now possess the gene and the ability to pass it on to other bacteria.
