Nemotoda V.s. Platyhelminthes |
In what ways is the phylum Nemotoda more advanced than the phylum Platyhelminthes? Well, in many ways they are quite similar. They both are cephalized, with 3 germ layers and bilateral symmetry. the difference is in the coeloms, or lack of coeloms.. An organism from phylum Platyhelminthes is going to be an acoelomate. This means that they have no coelom, or body cavity. An organism from Nemotoda however will have what is called a pseudocoelom. This means it has a coelom but the coelom lacks muscles to give the organism control over its digestive system.
