All plants share a two part life cycle containing a haploid and a diploid stage. The Bryophyta and Pteridophyta life cycles use spores for reproduction. These two also also are dominated by the gametophyte haploid stage. The Gymnosperms and Angiosperms use a more advanced method that doesn't require water, seeds. This allows plants to live in dry areas with limited amounts of water. These two are dominated by the sporophyte diploid stage. Having twice as many genes as there predecessor allows these two groups of plants to be far more advanced than bryophytes and Pteridophytes.
